If you’re starting to think about travelling solo, you likely have a ton of questions. That’s natural. You may even feel a little nervous and apprehensive. Also very natural.

The Travel Chicks team is all about empowering women to travel solo. And the best way we can think of to do that is to arm you with knowledge.

Our mission is to answer any and all your questions so that ‘fear-of-the-unknown’ factor evaporates into thin air.

To kick things off, here are answers to some of our most commonly asked questions about female solo travel …

Do I have to travel on my own or can I join a group?

You can travel any which way you like! If you’re not quite ready to hit the road all by yourself, but you don’t have a travel companion, that shouldn’t stop you from travelling. You have options.

There are lots of groups out there filled with solo female travellers just like you. And they’re looking to meet new friends they resonate with and can potentially travel with in the future.

Which brings us to our next question …

How do I join a group of other solo travellers?

Women are travelling on their own far more than they used to (you go, girls!). So it’s no surprise you can find other solo female travellers in Facebook groups and pages, or on Meetup groups (we have several across Canada).

The key is to be open to meeting new people. Some you’ll love … some, not so much. But if you put yourself out there, you’re sure to meet some fantastic solo travellers just like yourself.

Is it dangerous to travel alone as a woman?

No more dangerous than it is to go to your local coffee shop alone. Or to the grocery store. Or for a Sunday afternoon drive.

Think about all the things you already do alone. And think about how safe it is to them. Why? Because you’re a confident, capable woman!

There’s no real reason that travelling alone has to be any more dangerous than what you face in your every day life. Your personal safety is something you consider every day … so with a little preparation…
